Kiren Fragman

The brief

Kiren Fragman doesn’t do websites; they do exhibitions. So the brief read like one: white walls, black Helvetica, nothing between you and the work. One photo at a time, twenty seconds each, because four seconds is for people scrolling. Three zalen. And at the end, with a nod to Banksy, you exit through the giftshop.

How it’s built

Underneath, it’s boring on purpose: plain PHP and a MySQL database on ordinary shared hosting, no framework, no build step. A museum doesn’t need more. The design came together by deleting anything that felt like a website. What’s left is white space, the work, and a twenty-second timer.

The back room

Kiren runs the museum from an admin portal built into the site: log in, upload a photo, pick a zaal, write the label. Hanging new work is their job, not mine. There’s a wish form in there too; whatever they write in it lands in my issue tracker.
